Determining
threshold
Determining laser threshold becomes easier with
experience. Sample is consumed when exposed to the
laser, so minimize the number of spectra you acquire to
determine threshold.
H.2.2.2 Adjusting the Laser Intensity
This section describes:
• Adjusting the laser
• Fine-tuning threshold
Adjusting the
laser
NOTE: If settings are not listed for the matrix, set the laser
to the lowest “high setting” listed for another matrix and
start at step 2.
1. Set the laser to the high laser setting for your system.
2. Start an acquisition and acquire about 10 spectra. At this
high laser setting, you may see a saturated spectrum
where peaks are full scale and may be truncated
(Figure H-5).
NOTE: A saturated spectrum has flat-topped peaks. If the
spectrum goes off the screen, adjust the position of the
spectrum to see if the top is flat.
